Police clashed with protesters in Berlin on Wednesday as they tried to disperse a rally against the coronavirus lockdown. At the same time, parliament debated a law to give the national government more powers to impose lockdown measures.
Several thousand gathered to protest against coronavirus restrictions. Fights broke out, the police used pepper gas and forcibly ended the rally, several dozen people were detained.
Over 2,000 police officers are patrolling downtown Berlin amid protests against coronavirus-linked restrictions. Some 20-30 people have been detained over the absence of face masks.
Police are attempting to disperse participants of the demonstration against coronavirus restrictions, with some refusing to leave the site and instead, they sit on the street.
