Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau revealed that he is “banning” firearms during a press conference in Toronto on Tuesday.
Initially, Justin Trudeau stated that he wants to “freeze” the Canadian guns market without making a distinction between handguns, shotguns, and rifles.
He then acknowledged that his country would consider “banning” all guns.
“Whether it’s our most recent initiatives on banning—sorry, on freezing the market for firearms, which will start moving us in the right direction over the medium and long term,” Trudeau said.
Following the Texas school shooting, Trudeau suggested halting gun sales in Canada as part of new gun control regulations a little over a month ago.
“The day this legislation goes into effect, it will no longer be possible to buy, sell, transfer, or import handguns in Canada,” added Trudeau.
Following the announcement, Canadian gun shops experienced a rush in gun sales, with lines out the door.
