Governments around the world are beginning to use force against the peaceful Freedom Convoys as they descend upon their countries’ respective capitals over the weekend demanding an end to the vaccine mandates. However, in Paris, the government response to the protest has been especially brutal.
In Paris, the police have been decidedly more violent and forceful against the convoy, with shocking footage showing police attacking and beating protesters with extreme prejudice.
More than 32,000 people took part in the Freedom Convoy protest against COVID-19 restrictions across France on Saturday, with about 7,600 gathering in Paris, BFMTV reported, citing the Interior Ministry.
Ninety-seven people were detained and 513 cases were filed as a result of the Freedom Convoy rally. The streets of Paris have been flooded with armoured vehicles.
Checks are made at the city’s entrances. More than 7,000 policemen and gendarmes have been dispatched. The protest was outlawed by the authorities, and anyone caught blocking roads faces a sentence of two years in prison or a fine of 4.5 thousand euros.
Officers fired tear gas on Saturday afternoon to disperse protesters from the Champs-Elysees area and the Arc de Triomphe.
