Tom Van Grieken, leader of the Belgian Vlaams Belang party in the ID group, vows to violate the curfew and says he encourages others to join civil disobedience.
Tom Van Grieken, a municipal councilor and chairman of the Flemish nationalist party Vlaams Belang, strongly condemned the intentions to set the curfew even earlier than its current position at midnight.
“Promise. If curfews are brought forward today instead of being lifted, then I will 1 / ostentatiously disobey it, and 2 / call for civil disobedience and action. Enough is enough,” Van Grieken wrote on social media.
Mr. Van Grieken hopes to be able to put pressure on the Consultative Committee to lift the curfew and facilitate a return to normalcy after a year of Covid tyranny.
“I have been loyal for years,” Van Grieken said. “I have always called for even the most insane measures to be taken to combat the pandemic. But everything has its limits and the introduction of a curfew is a step too far.”
