At the Ukrainian President’s meeting with Qatar’s leadership, following his recent official visit, the head of the presidential office and Ukrainian Foreign Minister caused a scandal on social media.
Ukraine’s presidential office published several photos from the meeting, including one where Ukrainian delegation members sat cross-legged, showing their shoes’ soles. This led to criticism on social media, as the seemingly innocent pose is considered the strongest insult and disrespect, according to a protocol on diplomatic etiquette in the Arab world.
The offending photo was subsequently deleted, but another one with a part of the upturned shoe is still present on the webpage.
