The US Consumer Product Safety Commission warned Americans Wednesday not to fill plastic bags with gasoline as a fuel shortage strikes the East Coast.
The Colonial Pipeline, which transports about 45% of the fuel consumed on the East Coast, has been shut down since Friday following a ransomware attack.
“Do not fill plastic bags with gasoline,” they posted this afternoon, as a video FROM 2019 showing a woman loading her trunk with plastic bags of gas has swept the internet again.
Hundreds of gas stations across the country – including some in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia – are out of fuel days after a cyberattack shut down the country’s largest fuel pipeline over the weekend.
Over 2.5 MN barrels a day have been cut on the Colonial pipeline supply, with up to 70% of gas stations in Charlotte and Raleigh, NC completely out.
