Rutube, the leading Russian Youtube-Alternative video hosting service, will be redeveloped starting in the autumn of 2021, said Alexander Zharov, the CEO of Gazprom-Media Holding, during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Ru-Main reports.
“I propose to all to make this platform national together because we produce and will produce content. It is not only a means of informing, not only a means of exchanging opinions, it is also a means of earning money. Today there is an advertising model and a donation model. In autumn, there will appear other opportunities for monetization,” Zharov said.
According to the CEO, now the monthly audience of Rutube is approaching 20 million, which is an increase of 2.8 times compared to December 2020. In addition, the holding intends to launch a vertical platform for short videos, the functionality of which is expected to exceed the capabilities of TikTok and Likee applications.
