Brits Caught in Airport Carnage to Escape Portugal Before Lockdown Rule-Change Deadline

A reported 10,000 Brits desperately rushed to escape on Saturday from Faro airport in Portugal alone before the sudden lockdown deadline came into effect at 4 am local time this morning.

The UK government gave holidaymakers less than four days’ notice to get back from the country or face quarantine for 10 days, despite already having paid ₤200 on average to comply with testing regs.

The lockdown comes amidst the uncertainty over the UK’s 21 June complete lockdown lift – which the government is now open to delaying, with almost three-quarters of UK areas recording a spike in case numbers.
