A large group of refugees can be seen heading towards the Polish border from Belarus. The Polish Foreign Ministry said that the column of migrants is the largest attempt of mass force penetration into Poland so far.
The movement was initially reported by the Belarusian Border Guards and was later confirmed by videos posted online showing men, women and children moving along a highway.
More than 12,000 troops are on border duty according to Polish politician Mariusz Blaszczak. Earlier Poland’s Ministry of Defense published footage of a convey of reportedly 1,000 refugees heading to the EU country from Belarus.
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki convenes an urgent meeting of an anti-crisis response centre in the wake of a migrant influx on the border with Belarus, cabinet spokesman Piotr Muller says. The Polish Territorial Defense Force (TDF) announced that its alert level was raised.
Lithuania is purportedly sending troops to help its bloc partner at the Polish-Belarusian border, due to the influx of migrants.
