The coat of arms displayed on the stage behind Juan Guaido, the opposition lawmaker recognized by the US as Venezuela’s “interim president,” tumbled on the floor during his passionate speech.
Someone passing behind the platform seems to have nudged the round wooden sign with Venezuela’s logo, which clattered to the ground behind Guaido while he was addressing a question. On Monday, the moment was captured on camera and instantly spread over social media. “When the theatre drops,” one Twitter user wrote.
Guaido had broadcast the event live on his Twitter account, and the moment of the seal’s collapse can be seen about 58 minutes in.
