The video appeared online of police smashing through the front door of a UK man before arresting him. He is apparently accused of failing to quarantine in a designated hotel, an offence that can carry a £10k fine and up to 10 years in prison.
“You’re supposed to be here to protect us!” says the man’s apparent partner recording the incident, before accusing cops of committing criminal damage.
Officers refuse to show a warrant or their badge numbers as they handcuff the man.
According to the Independent, the 30-year-old Mathew Owens had recently returned home from the Middle East on a flight via Abu Dhabi – meaning he would need to pay £1,750 to stay at a government-approved hotel for 10 days.
The football coach, who had been living in Bahrain, said he was informed by consulate staff that he would be exempt from hotel quarantine if he did not leave the airport and continued with his journey first to Frankfurt and then on to Manchester.
