New Twitter CEO Wants to “Focus Less on Freedom of Speech” [Tweet]

Twitter’s new CEO, Parag Agrawal, has stated that the platform should “focus less” on free speech and that there is no difference between white people and racists.

On Monday, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey,  who had received his fair share of the blame for the development before, announced that he was stepping down from the position effective immediately and that Twitter’s Chief Technology Officer, Parag Agrawal, would replace him.

However, his successor does not seem to be a direct supporter of free speech either. In November 2020, Parag Agrawal had the position of Chief Technology Officer for Twitter. He then stated in an interview with Technology Review that he thinks it is important to “focus less on thinking about freedom of speech” because “times have changed” and “disinformation” is being spread.

“The kinds of things that we do about this is, focus less on thinking about free speech, but thinking about how the times have changed,” he said.

The National File has also drawn attention to a Twitter post written by Parag Agrawal in 2010, in which he equates white people with “racists”.

Andrew Torba, CEO of Alt Tech social media company Gab, argued that the tweet was proof that Agrawal is “anti-white.”
