Croatian President Slams COVID’s Restrictions in Austria [Video]

Croatian President Zoran Milanovi called Austria’s latest lockdown and COVID injection edict a “catastrophe,” comparing the situation to 1930s “fascism.”

During a press conference outside military barracks in Našice, Milanović was asked about the new lockdown in Austria, which began as one only for the ‘unvaccinated’ but was quickly expanded to include all residents effective Monday.

“Disaster. Catastrophe! I absolutely think that we are smarter than the Austrians and I think that the Swedish authorities are much smarter than them,” he declared.

“I said to me what’s going on in Austria is reminiscent of fascism. Excuse me. I watched what I said. Of course, I think the Austrian president is my friend.”

Milanović o lockdownu u Austriji

Asked about reports the Croatian ambassador was summoned in Vienna over previous comments from Milanović invoking ‘fascism,’ he indicated reciprocal measures could be taken.

“Today we will call the Austrian ambassador if they call ours. We will express our deep concern for the fundamental human rights of the people in Austria. So we will see,” he asserted.

Theatre Drops: Decoration Behind US-backed Venezuelan Leader Falls Apart [Video]

The coat of arms displayed on the stage behind Juan Guaido, the opposition lawmaker recognized by the US as Venezuela’s “interim president,” tumbled on the floor during his passionate speech.

Someone passing behind the platform seems to have nudged the round wooden sign with Venezuela’s logo, which clattered to the ground behind Guaido while he was addressing a question. On Monday, the moment was captured on camera and instantly spread over social media. “When the theatre drops,” one Twitter user wrote.

Guaido had broadcast the event live on his Twitter account, and the moment of the seal’s collapse can be seen about 58 minutes in.

Massive Protests Against Covidpass & Lockdown Around the World [Videos]

Tight restrictions and vaccination requirements have sparked massive protests around the world. Over the weekend, police in the Netherlands opened fire on demonstrators, injuring three people.

The Netherlands became the first Western European country to impose a partial lockdown since the summer on Saturday. An emergency order had to be put in place in the city centre in Enschede and in Groningen, in the south of the country, where fires were started and police pelted with stones.

15 people were arrested in the city of Roosendaal, where demonstrators set a primary school on fire, according to local media sources. In Leeuwarden, Roosendaal, and Tilburg, police had to interfere, with a number of arrests recorded in North Limburg.

Thousands of people protested in Brussels, Belgium’s capital, protesting a move to prevent unvaccinated people from accessing restaurants and bars, as the number of cases rose to 13,836 on Sunday alone.

Reports speak of 42 people detained; two were arrested in the riots, which resulted in three police officers sustaining injuries and being taken to hospital, reported local media. One participant in the riots is said to have been hurt after a flare exploded in his hands.

Austria has also been boiling as it re-entered lockdown – the fourth since the epidemic – with vaccinations set to become mandatory in February, according to Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg‘s announcement on Friday.

Tens of thousands of people protested in the capital Vienna ahead of the lockdown, brandishing national flags and banners that read “Freedom”, with protesters shouting “Resistance!”

Comparing the current lockdown and mandatory vaccination measures with the Nazi era, some protesters had worn the yellow Jewish star as badges, with the words “unvaccinated” stitched on.

In Italy, a 3,000-strong crowd protested against the requirement of “Green Pass” certificates at workplaces, restaurants, movies, theatres, sports venues, gyms, and long-distance train, bus, or boat travel inside the nation in the capital’s Circus Maximus field, which dates from Roman times.

In Switzerland, 2,000 people protested an upcoming referendum on the government’s proposed COVID-19 restrictions law, slamming it as discriminatory, according to broadcaster SRF.

Thousands gathered in Croatia’s capital Zagreb, carrying national flags and religious symbols, along with banners against coronavirus vaccination and what they describe as “restrictions of people’s freedoms”.

In Denmark, over one thousand people are reported to have gathered outside the Danish parliament in Copenhagen to protest the reintroduction of the national health pass.

Similar protests engulfed Sweden.

Unmasked Children Are to Wear Yellow Badges at School in UK [Tweet]

A school in the United Kingdom is requiring students who do not wear face masks to wear yellow badges on school grounds and in class.

Journalist Allison Pearson shared an email from the school, which was not named, on Twitter.

The school uses an “increase” in COVID cases as grounds for reintroducing mandatory mask restrictions, despite the fact that infection levels in the UK have been flat or even declining in recent weeks.

“Those pupils who were exempt from wearing a mask last academic year will once again be exempt and should wear a yellow badge,” states the email.

The yellow badge has long been associated with a “badge of shame,” and it has been imposed on Jews at various times throughout history to identify them as ethnic or religious outcasts.

DeSantis Signs Bill Stopping Vaccine Mandate in Florida [Video]

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed into law legislation that stops the federal mandate for employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

He signed the package of bills during a news conference at a car dealership in Brandon, Florida on Thursday, a day after lawmakers in the statehouse passed the bills.

“Florida is leading, this is the strongest piece of legislation that’s been enacted anywhere in the country in this regard,” DeSantis said.

DeSantis laughed when asked by a reporter if the bill signing being held in Brandon was a reference to the chants of “Let’s go Brandon” that have become a coded stand-in for “F—- Joe Biden” among conservatives.

“I think that Brandon, Florida is a great American city,” DeSantis said, as some in the crowd of about 250 supporters chanted “Let’s go Brandon.”

Iranian Women’s Football Team Accused of Playing a Man as Goalkeeper [Tweet]

Jordan has accused their fierce rivals Iran of playing a man in a women’s international and demanded a ‘gender verification check’.

Zohreh Koudaei saved two penalties but is now facing calls to confirm her gender at the request of Jordan’s Football Association.

“I will sue the Jordan FA,” Koudaei said. “I am a woman. This is bullying from Jordan.”

The President of Jordan’s FA, Prince Ali bin al-Hussein, tweeted a letter ‘requesting a gender verification check’ on Koudaei from the Asian Football Federation (AFC). He also called on the AFC to “please wake up.”

A team manager for Iran denied the gender allegation and said the Jordanian team was looking for an “excuse” for losing the match.

Sports Store Removed Boats From Sale in France to Prevent Migrants From Crossing the Channel [Tweet]

The sporting goods chain Decathlon has removed boats from the stores in Calais and Grand Sainte in northern France to prevent migrants from crossing the English Channel on them writes The Guardian.

Decathlon will no longer offer kayaks or canoes in Calais or Grande-Synthe, both known as gathering points for illegal migrants bound for the United Kingdom across the relatively narrow body of water.

“The purchase of these kayaks will no longer be possible in response to the current situation,” the company told AFP.

The company says watercraft sold in these locations are being “diverted from their sporting use” and instead used as “boats to cross the Channel.”

Migrants Return Home After Failing to Cross EU Border in Belarus [Video]

After nearly two weeks of living on the frontier between Belarus and Poland and failing to win access to the EU, several hundred Iraqis detained on the border between the two nations have decided to fly back home.

Around 300 migrants will return to Iraq on Thursday after giving up waiting for their asylum requests to be processed, according to Iraqi diplomats. Iraqi foreign ministry spokesperson Ahmed al-Sahaf announced the possibility of “voluntarily” returning on Sunday, noting that 571 Iraqis have expressed their readiness to be recalled.

Iraqis line up to check-in for the FlyBaghdad flight, which will stop in Erbil before continuing on to the Iraqi capital, according to a video posted on social media. It is unknown who will fund the journey, but it will be free for anyone who participates.

Austrian Police Patrol Shops & Highways in Search of Unvaccinated People [Video]

Video from Austria shows police checking people’s vaccination status in shops and on motorways, following the government’s decision to place unvaccinated people on their own lockdown.

Authorities have now implemented a lockdown that solely affects the unvaccinated, meaning they can only leave their houses for “essential reasons” such as grocery shopping, as revealed over the weekend.

These measures, which are the first of their kind in the world, impact the roughly 35 per cent of Austrians who haven’t had both doses of the vaccine.

Footage from Austria shows uniformed police checking people’s vaccination status against a state database while patrolling shopping centres.

Barbados to Become First Country with Virtual Metaverse Embassy [Tweet]

Barbados, a small Caribbean island, has expanded its diplomatic reach into the digital realm, signing a deal with a blockchain-based platform to build a digital embassy, a first for sovereign governments.

The Barbadian government officially signed an agreement to establish a digital embassy in Decentraland, a user-owned, Ethereum-based digital environment, on Sunday, CoinDesk reported, citing the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade. The tech platform also noted the move in a tweet.

The island does not plan to stop its digital expansion at that, and is ironing out details for similar deals with a number of other virtual reality platforms, including Somnium Space and SuperWorld, according to the ministry.

Poland Deploys Flashbangs and Water Cannons to Stop Migrants [Video]

As the conflict over illegal migration deepens, a group of refugees attempted to cross the border between Belarus and the EU, prompting Polish officials to use a water cannon and flash grenades to stop the crowds.

On Tuesday morning, images from the location showed scores of men approaching the demarcation line, some holding sticks. Other footage showed a vehicle on the Polish side of the border spraying water jets into the air, as well as clouds of smoke and light rising from border forces’ munitions.

According to the information of the Belarusian side, the Polish security forces use a special liquid against migrants, which “corrodes the eyes.”

RT correspondent, who is covering the growing humanitarian crisis from Belarus, said that “the migrants had moved around 100 meters from the checkpoint, to a place where the barbed wire fence was broken.”

According to him, the response was “more an outburst of emotion – everyone was freezing, everyone was tired. Stones were thrown at the Polish law enforcement officers.” However, he added, despite the wire being damaged, none of the would-be asylum seekers climbed the barrier.

The Polish side also uses special equipment and water cannons, from which improvised shields cannot save.
